Are all pictures in the archive available for digital research?
How do I request image research? Five ways:
Can I research these digital files myself on-line? Not yet. We're working on it. In the meantime, our experienced historical researchers will fulfill your requests and provide low res digital file submissions to you in a timely fashion. Keep reading for our time-to-deliver. How soon will I receive a digital research after I place the request? If your request is straightforward and simple, research will be provided within one day. If a small request is needed ASAP that same day, please inform us of exact deadlines. If a request is comprehensive covering a number of categories, more time will be required. Please always provide your deadlines for comprehensive researches. How will I receive the low res digital research submission? Three possibilities:
Once I decide to purchase a selected image or images, how will I receive an appropriate High Res Digital File of the selected image or images?
Are high res digital files available for comping purchases? Yes, we can deliver high res digital files for comping. A fee of $50.00 per high res comp will be billed, and all comp charges will be deducted from your final license fee. Will I receive a high res digital file ready for final production? We provide rare archival images: Highly damaged prints are rare but there may be variations in the quality of the prints that have been scanned. Culver will provide a file free of scanning artifacts but not necessarily fully restored. If an image requires extensive retouching or restoration due to scratches, tears, excessive dirt or missing picture etc., we will inform you and if you wish, retouch and restore for you ($40 an hour). An estimate of the retouching time will be provided. You may also choose to accept the image as-is and retouch yourself. What is the largest file size I can receive? Most files are approximately 50mb—enough for 11×17 tabloid or A3 reproduction @ 300 DPI. In some cases, resolution will be lower. Larger files can sometimes be provided for a small courtesy charge. Are Culver's images Rights Managed or Royalty Free? Our images are Rights Managed. We sell licenses that allow you or your client to use our images in very specific ways that include:
