It was a long time coming but worth the wait -- Culver has digitized! | |||||||||||||||||||

During the past two years we have digitized over a half-million of our one-of-a-kind historic photographic prints. Gradually we have begun delivering research requests as online lightboxes and are now sending high resolution digital files to clients every day via our website. From the dawn of visual history to roughly 1950, Culver has the pictures of the people, places, events, occupations, entertainments and artifacts of the past. Since 1926, we have been collecting all manner of printed imagery -- photographs and illustrations. Popular subject categories include: Business, Family, History, Personalities, Transportation, Recreation & Sports, Science & Invention, Movie Stills, Performing Arts, and many more. "If it happened, we have a picture of it,'" says Harriet Culver, Culver Pictures President. "We have focused initially on digitizing our photographic prints but are also beginning to deliver illustrations electronically." The Culver archive also includes nearly one-million engravings, illustrations and gravure prints, and magnificent copperplate engravings that were the photographs of their day. "These rare images can be researched quickly and digitized on demand," says Culver. "It's a work in progress, and the portion of our collection that's digital is growing every day."Although only a small fraction of the digital collection is available online, Culver has internal access to images you will not find anywhere else in the world. Our exceptional history-specialist researchers are always available, can find virtually any image you want -- and can do it quickly. Usually, we post online lightboxes within 24 hours and send you a link to the results of your custom research. Learn more about how Culver digital works. Call or send email for or . |
